Thong Nai Pan is a wonderful double bay located in the north east of the island of Koh Phangan.
Until just a few years ago the beaches of Thong Nai Pan Noi and Thong Nai Pan Yai were relatively undiscovered except by a few who braved the bumpy journey over mountains and bad roads to get to the area.
Now the area of Thong Nai Pan is firmly on the map primarily because it is the home to the three best hotels on the island.
The first luxury hotel was built in the 1990s on the rocky outcrop between the two beaches. This is Panviman Resort. Since its inception the resort has slowly improved its facilities and accommodation.
Panviman now offers some striking cottages that are built around huge granite boulders and feature great views of the bay and private pools and Jacuzzis.
The second luxury hotel to be built in the area was Santhiya. It occupies its own small beach and is located at the northern end of the bay. Whereas Panviman sits unobtrusively overlooking the bay, Santhiya announces itself boldly with its high buildings and impressive teak wood architecture.
It has some amazing private pool villas, 3 restaurants, a spa, a gym and the biggest pool on the island. Santhiya has become very popular with honeymooners and those seeking a once in a lifetime holiday experience.
The last hotel to be built was the Rasananda Resort and Spa. It is a new departure for Koh Phangan because it is ultra modern and chic. Rasananda is a collection of 2 storey villas with private salas and plunge pools. The villas feature rainwater showers, modern décor and iPod docking systems. The villas are totally beach front. Rasananda appeals to those who want more of a boutique luxury experience, and to those who want to be as close to the beach as possible.
All three of the hotels in Thong Nai Pan offer something that Koh Samui hotels cannot and that is a completely unspoiled natural setting that is free of the unchecked development that has marred such beaches as Chaweng and Lamai.
