Crafty ideas for Christmas presents

Numerous people are on a budget this year, especially for this Christmas season.  It’s going to be a tight one with the current economic environment.  But many people are seeking alternatives.  Families with small children can get crafty and use arts and crafts to make some homemade gifts.  This article is geared towards them.

Maybe your home is an arts and craft type of home. By this, I mean you are always doing crafts with your children.  This is great, then because you will already have most of the supplies on hand.

If not, don’t worry.  You can easy buy the supplies and only spend a few bucks.  Take a look around and see if you have: construction paper, heavy card stock, colored pencils, markers, crayons, hole puncher, scissors, pictures, glitter, glitter glue pens, glue, and yarn.

Are any of your family member book lovers?   Homemade book marks make great gifts for book lovers.  No one needs to spend a large sum of money buying an ebook reader with kobo covers. Even if your family members don’t like books, they will appreciate the homemade feel of their book marks.

Gather up your cardstock, construction paper and glue.  This will form the basis of the book mark.  The kids favorite part will be decorating the book marks with their drawings or with glue pictures from magazines or photos you have taken throughout the year.  Take a hole puncher to punch a hole at the top and add some yarn for a tassel. You can shape it further with scissors if you are going for a particular shape.

Christmas ornaments can also be homemade and given as presents.  You can take some heavy card stock, some photographs and glue them together.  This will form the basis.  Then you shape the photograph with some fun shapes via cookie cutters.  You draw around the cookie cutter and cut the shape.  Add a hole on top with your hole puncher and thread some yarn in to create the ornament.

Don’t forget about the many benefits of using a Cricut expression machine to make these kinds of crafty things too.  If your budget is tight perhaps you have a friend who would be happy to loan theirs to you for a day or two.
